10 Mind-Blowing Unsolved Mysteries.

10 )The Wow! Signal
Original Printout of Wow! Signal

One summer night in 1977, Jerry Ehman, a volunteer for SETI, or the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, may have become the first man ever to receive an intentional message from an alien world. Ehman was scanning radio waves from deep space, hoping to randomly come across a signal that bore the hallmarks of one that might be sent by intelligent aliens, when he saw his measurements spike.

The signal lasted for 72 seconds, the longest period of time it could possibly be measured by the array that Ehman was using. It was loud and appeared to have been transmitted from the constellation Sagittarius near a star called Tau Sagittarii, 120 light-years away.

Ehman wrote the words "Wow!" on the original printout of the signal, thus its title as the "Wow! Signal."

All attempts to locate the signal again have failed, leading to much controversy and mystery about its origins and its meaning.

9) Cicada by 3301

For the past three years, each January there is a bizarre, online puzzle game that is hosted by someone who calls themselves “3301.” Their symbol is a cicada. The extremely complex puzzles draw on elements of cryptography, mathematics, literature, hidden messages, data security, and philosophy. Physical clues appear in places as diverse as Poland, Hawaii, Spain, Australia, and Korea. 3301 claims that its puzzles attempt to find “intelligent individuals.” They don’t say why. Many believe these nearly impossible puzzles are a recruitment vehicle for organizations like the CIA or MI6.

8) The Zodiac Killings

"I like killing people because it is so much fun." That is how one of the many encrypted letters sent to San Francisco newspapers began, sent by the man who called himself the Zodiac. For most of 1969, a serial killer terrorized Bay Area (in San Francisco) residents, killing five and possibly more. It started when a couple was shot to death while sitting in a car on a lover's lane on Dec. 20, 1968. Over the next 10 months, the killer would strike again, shooting a couple in a public park, trussing up and stabbing yet another man and woman near a peaceful lake, and shooting a cabdriver in the head. The Zodiac killer toyed with police and reporters the whole time. He called in several of the murders and began to send coded letters to newspapers, using a cross within a circle as his symbol. The investigation went on for years. Several suspects were questioned, but the killer was never caught. It's impossible to say what happened with any of these mysteries. The only thing we can be sure of is that we just don't know the truth.
7 )DB Cooper Mystery

When DB Cooper hijacked a Boeing 727 along with $200,000, he proceeded to jump out of the plane with a parachute. He was never found, however, and this remains the only unsolved case in US aviation history.

6) Jack the Ripper

The mystery of this killer has kept the world enthralled since he first struck roughly around 1888. The name stuck on when a letter written by someone who claimed to be the murderer was widely circulated by the media. Extremely brutal and mainly involving female prostitutes, the murders were never solved and the killer was never caught.

5) Shroud Of Turin

The Shroud of Turin (Italian: Sindone di Torino) is a length of linen cloth bearing the image of a man who appears to have suffered physical trauma in a manner consistent with crucifixion. It is very baffling that how the image was created, and it is believed by some to be the burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth, despite radiocarbon dating placing its origins in the Medieval period. The image is much clearer in black-and-white negative than in its natural sepia color. The negative image was first observed in 1898, on the reverse photographic plate of amateur photographer Secondo Pia, who was allowed to photograph it while it was being exhibited in the Turin Cathedral.

The mystery here is that every test, conducted by scientists or researchers has failed to explain how the image of the shroud was created.

4) The Aluminum Wedge of Aiud

In 1974, this is a wedge-shaped object found 1.2 miles east of Aiud, Romania. It was discovered on the banks of the Mures River. It was reportedly unearthed 35 feet under sand and alongside two mastodon bones. It looks like the head of a hammer and is made of an alloy of aluminum encased in a thin layer of oxide. It’s strange because aluminum was not discovered until 1808 and not produced in quantity until 1885. Since it was found in the same layer as mastodon bones, it would indicate that this wedge was at least 11,000 years old. Many people believe that this wedge is evidence that aliens visited earth, since there is no way that humans created such an alloy so many thousands of years ago.

3) S.S. Ourang Medan

What happened to SS Ourang Medan in Malaysia is perhaps one of the most fascinating and mind-boggling mysteries that ever existed in seafaring history. Everything began with an SOS message in 1947 that mentioned the captain, along with the rest of the crew, was dead. [ Read the exact SOS message sent by the ship here ] What’s worse, even the telegrapher died during the transmission of the message. When the rescue was able to receive the distress call and went to inspect the ship, they confirmed the deaths of all aboard. Speculations of ghosts and even aliens have been raised.

2) Voynich Manuscript

Named after the Polish-American antiquarian bookseller Wilfrid M. Voynich, who acquired it in 1912, the Voynich Manuscript is a detailed 240-page book written in a language or script that is completely unknown. Its pages are also filled with colorful drawings of strange diagrams, odd events and plants that do not seem to match any known species. The original author of the manuscript remains unknown, but carbon dating has revealed that its pages were made sometime between 1404 and 1438. It has been called "the world's most mysterious manuscript."

The fact that many diagrams appear to be of astronomical origin, combined with the unidentifiable biological drawings, has even led some fanciful theorists to propose that the book may have an alien origin.

One thing most theorists agree on is that the book is highly unlikely to be a hoax, given the amount of time, money and detail that would have been required to make it.

1) Nazca Lines
This one is the biggest, most baffling and incredibly complex mystery ever.

In the peruvian desert about 200 miles south of Lima there lies a plain between the Inca and Nazca valleys. Across this plain in an area measuring 37 miles long and 1 mile wide is an assortment of perfectly straight lines, many running parallel, others intersecting to form a grand geometric form. In and around the lines there are also trapezodial zones, strange symbols and pictures of birds and beasts all etched on a giant scale that can only be apprecited from the air. The forms are so difficult to see from the ground that they were not discovered until the 1930s when a plane flew over the Nazca plateau and saw this gigantic art book. Some 70 animal and plant figures that include a spider, hummingbird, monkey, whale, some kind of being,  a 1000 foot long pelican, and arguably a "prehistoric astronaut" (named Al Astronauta) has been observed

The spider is a member of a known spider genus- Ricinulei. This spider just happens to be one of the rarest spiders in the world, so rare that it has only been found in remote and inaccessible parts of the Amazon. ( Not amazon.com :P )
The nazca lines were created by clearing the darkened pampa stones to either side and exposing the lighter sand underneath. One of the biggest mysteries is - How were they made?
