Beautiful Birds : Would they Become History ?

According to International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), 1253 birds fall under the "endangered" category. Majority of these birds are endangered due to humans.

Some really beautiful birds, which are sadly endangered to a great extent.

1) Vulture

Estimated Population : 2 - 3 Thousand.

In the past 10 - 15 years, 97 - 98% vultures have died. An analgesic ( pain reliever ) "diclofenac" is responsible for their destruction. It results in the kidney failure of vultures. If an animal is given diclofenac , and vultures eat their flesh, they die.




2) Great Indian Bustard

Estimated Population : 225 - 250

They're one of the biggest and heaviest birds, which possess the ability of flight. Their height is nearly 1m and weigh nearly 15 kgs. ( 33.07 lbs ) This beautiful bird is found only in India and Pakistan. In india, it is found in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Their natural habitation is grassland - not forest. grasslands in India and Pak are now mostly used for agriculture, roads and transportation. This is the main reason for the massive destruction of their species.



3) Lesser Florican

Estimated Population : 500 - 1000

These birds are shy. Just a little noise and they hide in the bushes. A male, attracts a female by "jumping" upto 2m for around 600 times !!! 
Sadly, their hunting is NOT PROHIBITED. Hunters play games to hunt them down, when they're jumping for their partner.


4) Forest Owlet

Estimated Population : 100 - 200

Consider yourself extremely luck if you see one of them, because yes ! they're less than 200 in the world. Their height is just 23 cms. they are unusually shaped - big head, brown feathers, big and sparking eyes, big claws, small body.
Their homes are destroyed by deforestation. One strange reason for their destruction is that in many backward countries, the parts of their body are used in " black magic "
